ADMISSIONS AND ACCEPTANCE

Admissions and Acceptance Process

  • Gather information:

    • Read MEIPN Student Catalog

    • Attend a Zoom info session - schedule listed on the home page of the website

    • Request a conversation with course level coordinators by submitting a note to [email protected]

  • Read admissions requirements in MEIPN Student Catalog

  • Assemble and submit application materials and fee - allow a minimum of two weeks to process

  • Interview - MEIPN will schedule this with you

  • Notification -MEIPN will notify you of acceptance decision by email.

  • Return Enrollment Agreement to finalize enrollment.

What to Submit - All Levels

  • A typed statement (400 to 500 words) describing why you are interested in Montessori education AND why you have decided to become a Montessori professional for the age level you have chosen.
  • Two typed observation reports, each two-pages long; include comments of your observations of the students, the environment, and the teachers in each of the two Montessori classrooms at the level you are applying to study. If currently working in a Montessori school, at least one of the observations must be at a different school.
  • Two recommendation forms (download form from Resource tab of the website). from persons who can attest to your interest in children and your maturity, patience, leadership, personal responsibility, and academic competence to handle the demands of a college level teacher preparation course; both of these should be professional recommendations.
  • A completed MEIPN application.
  • Application/Registration fee.
  • Official transcript of highest level of education.
  • Your Montessori Early Childhood Credential, if you have one.
  • Degree equivalency evaluation if degree was earned in a foreign country.
  • Proof of English proficiency, if applicable.
  • Early Childhood and Elementary only: transcript of your 3 to 5 credit Child Development course if not included on your official transcript.
  • Elementary I credential if applying for Elementary II.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS - ALL LEVELS

  • a computer with a current operating system and webcam
  • access to materials for practice
  • word processing and presentation software
  • printer access
  • a working gmail account that you check regularly 
  • high-speed internet access   
  • a smartphone or other device for recording videos 
  • basic computer skills including email, internet usage, facility with downloading and uploading documents, familiarity with Google docs, word processing and presentations.  jf

Level Specific Admissions Requirements

EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY

CHILD DEVELOPMENT COURSE PREREQUISITE

College transcript verifying completion of a 3-to-5 credit college level course in Child Development is required. For further details see “Child Development” under Course Descriptions in the MEIPN Student Catalog

 

 

Elementary Students

► An MACTE accredited Early Childhood credential or attendance at an Overview course for the Early Childhood level,

► An approved Elementary-I credential is required prior to taking E-II.

►  Washington state law requires teachers of elementary children in  public schools to hold a valid state teaching credential for the age level and subject they teach. Our programs do not lead to Washington state teaching certification.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants who received most of their high school and college education in a language other than English must provide evidence of English proficiency to ensure their academic and practicum success.  Here are some possible examples of such proof. See MEIPN Student Catalog for details of each.

  • Results of a recognized English language test (test results are valid for 2 years) OR
  • Evidence of previous successful J-1 exchange programs, e.g. copies of previous Forms DS-2019 or a letter from the previous J-1 visa sponsor OR
  • The MEIPN phone, video conference or in-person interview

Degrees Awarded Outside the US

If your degree was obtained outside the US, it must be evaluated for equivalency to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. See MEIPN Student Catalog, p. 28

Official transcript evaluations must be received in the MEIPN office 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the course.
